About Ghonche Oil
Ghoncheh is a long-established Iranian edible-oil brand whose origins date back to 1974. Its history is closely associated with the Kesht va Sanat Shomal industrial complex in Mazandaran and spans several stages in the development of Iran's vegetable-oil industry. According to the brand's official historical account, the business entered a new phase of private-sector development after the Iran–Iraq War, followed by further modernization and expansion. Ghoncheh subsequently became part of the broader food-industry structure of Modalal, whose activities extend across different stages of the edible-oil value chain.
Over time, Ghoncheh has expanded well beyond a conventional household cooking-oil range. Its current portfolio includes blended vegetable oils, canola and corn oils, dedicated frying oils and semi-solid products, alongside the Ghoncheh Plus range. The latter extends into sunflower oil, a three-seed blend based on sunflower, canola and camelina, olive oils and several plant-based margarine formats. This development has allowed the brand to address a broader range of cooking methods and consumption needs rather than relying on a limited set of general-purpose edible oils.
Ghoncheh's industrial background is also an important part of the brand's identity. Kesht va Sanat Shomal in Mazandaran has long been associated with its manufacturing operations, while its position within Modalal connects the brand to a wider system encompassing oilseed and crude-oil procurement, crushing, refining, production planning, packaging and logistics. In edible oils, where raw-material availability and consistency have a direct impact on manufacturing and supply, this broader operating structure is particularly relevant to the brand's ability to manage a diversified portfolio.
From an industry perspective, one of the more significant aspects of Ghoncheh's portfolio is the differentiation of oils by application and functional performance. An oil formulated for high-temperature frying faces different requirements in terms of thermal stability and fatty-acid composition from one intended primarily for everyday cooking or salads, while semi-solid fats and margarines serve yet another set of culinary functions. For a brand with Ghoncheh's breadth, portfolio management is therefore not simply a matter of adding more products; it is increasingly about creating a clear relationship between oil composition, intended use and expected performance across the range.
