You have undoubtedly heard the name “Lipton” many times. So much so that people commonly refer to tea bags as Lipton or Neptun tea. Yes! Lipton is one of the most prominent tea-processing factories worldwide. This company was founded in 1890 by a Scottish merchant named Sir Thomas Lipton, who was also involved in maritime trade. Thomas Lipton was one of the prominent tea entrepreneurs and traders in Scotland who started his business from a small residential unit. With Mr. Lipton’s trade expansion, he built his factory and sales office in New Jersey, United States.

Initially, Lipton was only involved in tea packaging. But in 1898, it reached the pinnacle of success, as the Queen of England conferred the title of knighthood upon him. On the other hand, the progress of this company became such that its products were known throughout the United States and Britain. Using advertising and marketing techniques, Thomas Lipton transformed tea from an aristocratic beverage to a public and common drink. Lipton is the first official seller of tea bags globally. At this time, Thomas Lipton began purchasing products from tea farms in Sri Lanka, Kenya, India, and China. In 1991, Lipton started its partnership with PepsiCo. Thus, Pepsi Lipton entered the world of trade. With the expansion and diversification of Lipton’s products, this company became even more well-known. Lipton products are sold in 150 countries worldwide and have authorized representatives in 110 countries. Lipton also has an official and assigned representative in Iran. Unilever and PepsiCo own the brand; the current owner is Mr. Ekaterra.
